Building Futures: Guyana’s Youth Rise Through Men on Mission

In a time when youth empowerment is more vital than ever, Guyana’s Men on Mission (MoM) initiative continues to shine as a beacon of hope and transformation. Launched at the Kuru Kuru Training Centre, this bold program brings together mentorship, education, and life skills to prepare children from six regions to become confident, capable citizens.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali shared his vision directly with the youth:

“We want you to grow up to be the best citizens.”

From early morning to late evening, participants engage in:

  • Classroom sessions on geography and environmental issues

  • Ethics and team-building games to foster discipline and social skills

  • Mentorship from positive role models who guide and inspire

According to the July 28, 2024, editorial of the Guyana Chronicle, Lieutenant Colonel Bhageshwar Murli, director of the Men on Mission (MoM) camp, emphasized the program’s rigorous and well-rounded design. From early morning to late evening, children engage in diverse activities—including classroom sessions on national geography and environmental issues, along with team-building games that promote ethics and healthy social interaction.

What truly sets the MoM initiative apart is its deep investment in mentorship as a powerful force for personal growth. The editorial notes that mentorship allows young participants to connect meaningfully with individuals who have overcome life’s challenges. These relationships help cultivate character, encourage thoughtful decision-making, and strengthen a sense of community among Guyana’s rising generation.

We at the North Ruimveldt Youth Reflection Blog look forward to the first annual report from the Men on Mission initiative and remain committed to keeping our community updated on its progress, impact, and future plans.
